TEDx on track to promote growth, development and well-being in Warrington

TEDx talks are coming to Warrington in June with inspiring speakers from across the region and beyond.

With talks on topics as diverse as mental health, conservation, neurodiversity, disability, music and comedy, the evening promises to be a learning assortment and a highlight event for 2022.

So how well do you know the global brands TED and TEDx? And what will TEDx bring to Warrington?
We asked Warrington organizer and business owner Kirsty James to answer a few key questions.

Why is TEDx good news for Warrington?

Obtaining the Warrington license and hosting TEDx talks in Warrington is a cultural milestone for the town and one that has already generated huge amounts of positive feedback and social engagement.

This is a community event that will enhance the cultural fabric of the city. It brings a global brand to Warrington and shines a light on the town, the Pyramid Parr Hall venue, local people and organisations.

The chosen theme ‘Build Connection and Strengthen Communities’ and discussion categories ‘Embracing Change’ and ‘Diversity and Inclusion’ were chosen to complement Warrington’s independent thinking and collaborative spirit and reflect the challenges of 2020-21. They dovetail perfectly with the exciting redevelopment and cultural priorities of a city that asserts a strong position as a vibrant connectivity point in the North.

What is TED?
Perhaps one of the most famous speakers’ conferences in the world, TED is a non-profit organization devoted to ideas worth spreading, which began as a four-day conference in California a few years ago. 30 years.

What is TEDx?
In the spirit of Ideas Worth Spreading, TEDx is a program of self-organized local events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. These self-organized local events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
What are the TEDxWarrington projects?
The event will take place at Pyramid Parr Hall, Warrington on Thursday 23rd June and will involve up to 10 speakers.

Who is behind TEDxWarrington?

I invite you to visit the site www.tedxwarrington.com to learn more about the people behind TEDxWarrington. You might even pick one of TED-talk’s top recommendations, because everyone shared their favorite.

Why is TEDx so valuable as an event format?
Let me quote our TEDx Speaker Coach, Catherine Sandland, “TEDx Speakers present ideas that spark curiosity, start conversations, and challenge beliefs and behaviors.”

Will there only be talks?
You’ll have to attend to find out, but let’s just say we’re keen on introducing variety.

What will the program consist of?
It hasn’t been shared yet. 12 candidate speakers participated in secret rehearsals and the final list will be announced in June. What I can say is that there are some hidden gems about to hit the stage in June.

Can you share 3 TED / TEDx facts?
1. TED has over 14.7 million subscribers and over 2.6 billion views as of September 2021
2. TED started in 1984 as a conference where technology, entertainment and design converged.
3. Over 13,000 TEDx events have taken place in 150 countries.

Why should people support him?
To hear newsworthy ideas that spark curiosity and conversation and change behavior; and be part of something special and help Warrington take its place as a TEDx event venue.

Are tickets available?
Tickets were released by the Pyramid Parr Hall box office on May 18 and sold out within hours. A waiting list system is now operational via the www.tedxwarrington.com website for any subsequent posting of tickets. Tickets have also been reserved for our event sponsors.

Are there ways to support this event?
As a non-commercial event, the organizing team depends on the goodwill of people and organizations in Warrington to cover the costs of the event through ticket and sponsor revenue. The organizers will be announcing confirmed sponsors very soon, but it is still possible to support something special and give back to the Warrington community in addition to receiving promotional exposure and a ticket.
