Three Tuskegee University alumni announced as semifinalists for board alumni seat

Tuskegee University has announced three semi-finalists for the vacant former administrator position. Finalists include Cornelius L. Allen, Jr. ’99, Clinton Timothy Branner II ’90 and Natalie D. Knight ’01. Beginning May 4, university alumni will be able to vote by email or mail for their preferred candidate to fill the next vacancy on the board. The candidate who receives the most votes will serve a three-year term from 2022 to 25.

The three former candidates are:

Cornelius L. Allen ’99 earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; he is a colonel in the United States Army and currently serves as a commander (project leader) in the US Special Operation Command.

Clinton Timothy Branner II ’90 earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing; he is Associate Director of Affirmative Action Programs at Raytheon Technologies in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Most recently, Branner served as an alumni trustee from 2019-2022.

Natalie D. Knight ’01 earned a bachelor’s degree in plant and social sciences; she is director of state and local government relations for a lobbying firm, Impact Public Affairs, in Atlanta, Georgia.

The three nominees were recommended following a review of nominations by the five-person Ad Hoc Committee on Alumni Director Elections, chaired by Faye Haygood ’80. With the assistance of the university’s alumni affairs and reunion programs coordinator, the committee recommended candidates to the Board Structure and Nominating Committee, which narrowed the field to Allen, Branner and Knight.

“We would like to thank everyone who has expressed an interest in serving Tuskegee University in this unique way as past trustees,” said Norma Clayton, chair of the university’s board of trustees. “Applying for this opportunity and reviewing the applications we received required a great deal of foresight – and, for that, we appreciate all of the alumni who have been involved in the steps of this process.”

The process is now moving to the entire alumni base of the university. Online voting, administered by Votenet Solutions Inc., begins Wednesday, May 4, 2022 and ends Wednesday, May 25. All alumni whose email address is on file with the university will receive an email to that account providing further voting instructions. procedures via the electronic voting system.

The finalist receiving the most votes (a plurality) will then go to the full Board for their consensus. Once the directors approve the finalist-elect for service on the board, the elected nominee will begin serving as a past director at this summer’s board meeting.
